Course Outline, Physics Lab, Phy 1034

Course Objectives:
Basically, Physics is a science with logical and practical view. In this course we are going to introduce with some basic concepts of experiments which are related to electricity, magnetism, optics and mechanics. It helps us to solve different types of problem related to engineering sectors.
List of Experiments:
Expt.1
Lecture 1
To determine the specific resistance of a wire using a meter bridge.
Expt.2
Lecture 2
To compare the e.m.f. of two cells with a potentiometer.
Expt.3
Lecture 3
To determine the value of ‘g’ acceleration due to gravity by means of compound pendulum using Origin.
Expt.4
Lecture 4
To determine the moment of inertia of a fly wheel about its axis of rotation.
Expt.5
Lecture 5
To determine the refractive index of a liquid by pin method using a plane mirror and a convex lens.
Expt.6
Lecture 6
To determine the focal length and hence the power of a convex lens by displacement method with the help of an optical bench.
Expt.7
Lecture 7
To determine the angle of a prism (by rotation of the telescope).
Expt.8
Lecture 8
To determine the horizontal component of the earth’s magnetic field and the magnetic moment of a magnet by employing magnetometers.

Representation method to inscribe a lab report:
To write down a lab report inclusively has to be required a consequent order of the following track is being signified below:
1.     Name of the Experiment
2.     Theory
3.     Apparatus Required
4.     Schematic Diagram of the Corresponding Experiment
5.     Experimental Data
6.     Calculations
7.     Result
8.     % error (if applicable)
9.     Discussions

Instructions to the Students:
1.     All the students should be present in every lab class. There will be one experiment in each class. No experiment will be repeated.
2.     Lab reports for the respective experiment have to be submitted on the same day the experiment is done.
3.     All students should be kept calculator, graph papers, pencil, scale, eraser, sharpener by own self to do the perform lab class well functionally.
4.     Students should exercise extreme caution while handling the equipments in the laboratory. If any apparatus is damaged due to mishandling, necessary compensation has to be paid by the corresponding student(s).
